Staying Grounded

How many of us say, “I will start tomorrow.” Or “once the new year rolls around, then I’ll start working out again and begin eating healthier.”  But, why wait? 2019 is about a month away and I wanted to end 2018 with a bam. I think prioritizing our health and wellness should be a standard and not just another new year resolution.

I’ve always wanted to do a juice cleanse and thought this was a great way to kickstart my healthy eating routine. So I teamed up with Grounding Roots to share with you my experience with doing a cleanse for the first time! The mission of Grounding Roots is to help people live a healthier lifestyle by giving their bodies the best nutrition possible and to motivate them to become more active. Juicing is a great way to get the important vitamins and minerals, from fruits and vegetables, that one normally would not get it in a day or even a week.

Jed, the owner of Grounding Roots

The first thing I did was meet with Jed to learn more about the juices, the benefits and how it would affect me. Jed KNOWS his stuff. Wow.. I was so impressed with how much nutrition knowledge he had. While trying the different juice samples, I spent a few hours just listening and learning.

While I was there, I was also able to experience the laid-back culture. I met fellow juice lovers and heard about why they enjoy these juices. We even took GTL shots (ginger, turmeric, lemon and black pepper)!

I decided to do the Two-Day ReBoot Cleanse. This is 10 total juices for the duration of two days of cleansing. After trying the samples, Jed and I chose which juices would be best for me. He made sure to tell me that juicing isn’t for everybody or every BODY. So to be sure to listen to my body during the cleanse.

Since I’ve never done a cleanse before, I was a bit nervous. If you know me, you know I love food. Anything really. From candy to fruit to sushi. I am not picky. So the thought of not physically chewing anything for two days made me nervous. But, I was looking forward to the fact that I didn’t have to figure out what I would eat because I could just grab a juice and boom done!

On day 1, I was ready to feel good. I woke up excited to start my cleanse. I usually eat breakfast around 8:30 am, so I drank my first juice then. Around 11ish I started feeling hungry. Jed’s advice: If you feel hungry, listen to your body and drink your next juice. So that’s what I did for the remaining day.

That night I had my sisters soccer game. At the concession stand, they had Krispy Kreme donuts. Talk about temptation… I didn’t realize how hard it would be to say no. But I didn’t eat the donut (proud moment) and drank my next juice instead. Have you ever turned down a Krispy Kreme donut? That’s tough.

“Instead of worrying about the sugar and calories, start worrying about the chemicals and the lack of life in your food.” -Jed, owner

After going to bed with a full belly the night before, I knew the second day would be a lot easier. If I am being honest, knowing I was going to eat “normal” food soon helped me get through the second day.

Also, feeding my body nutrients it needed and knowing I wasn’t adding toxins to it, helped me be successful during the cleanse. I really give props to people who do even longer cleanses.

During the two days I didn’t feel hungry . The juices really did fill me up and having 5 juices a day was enough for me. During the cleanse, I found it to be more of a mental game. Knowing that my body was getting what it needed, and me craving little snacks here and there weren’t really necessary. I’m used to eating little snacks in between my meals, so I had to re-train my mind telling myself  I would be fine.

I typically eat what I want and try to make healthy choices, but usually I have a choice. So not having a choice to eat whatever I wanted was hard but with my co-workers (and Odin^) encouraging me and telling myself it was almost done, I did it! Haha, baby steps.

If you’re interested in doing a cleanse here are some steps from Grounding Roots on how to start the process:

Step 1: Pick a date to start your cleanse. Picking a date and preparing is key to a successful cleanse.  Don’t rush it.

Step 2: Call or email Grounding Roots a start date.

Step 3: Prep for your cleanse.

Step 4: Go into the shop (if you have time) and taste all the juices and create your own custom cleanse.

PREP: It’s recommended to modify your diet before doing a cleanse to avoid any system shocks. Ideally, prep three days before you start on the juices. If your diet includes red meat, dairy, caffeine, processed or fast food, you should spend at least three to five days weaning yourself. If you’ve done a cleanse before or you have a pretty clean diet, two to three days of preparation is usually enough.

Overall I am glad I did this cleanse and would definitely recommend it for anyone wanting nutrients beneficial for you. Each juice has specific benefits depending on what your body needs. If you’re looking for a boost to your health, then I think a cleanse can help!

Grounding Roots also currently has a Black Friday deal: https://groundingroots.com/collections/gift-certificates. Let me know if you have any questions if you decide to do a cleanse, and how your experience is  🙂

8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

  1. I love drinking fresh juices and these look yummy! A cleanse is the perfect way to start the new year.

  2. I’m really interested in doing a juice cleanse but as a person inclined to binge-eating/starving myself, I’m kinda scare about maybe pushing myself back to dark thoughts… I’m afraid that if it was too easy I’d stop eating altogether and just juice
