Staying Grounded

How many of us say, “I will start tomorrow.” Or “once the new year rolls around, then I’ll start working out again and begin eating healthier.”  But, why wait? 2019 is about a month away and I wanted to end 2018 with a bam. I think prioritizing our health and wellness should be a standard and not just another new year resolution.

I’ve always wanted to do a juice cleanse and thought this was a great way to kickstart my healthy eating routine. So I teamed up with Grounding Roots to share with you my experience with doing a cleanse for the first time! The mission of Grounding Roots is to help people live a healthier lifestyle by giving their bodies the best nutrition possible and to motivate them to become more active. Juicing is a great way to get the important vitamins and minerals, from fruits and vegetables, that one normally would not get it in a day or even a week.

Jed, the owner of Grounding Roots

The first thing I did was meet with Jed to learn more about the juices, the benefits and how it would affect me. Jed KNOWS his stuff. Wow.. I was so impressed with how much nutrition knowledge he had. While trying the different juice samples, I spent a few hours just listening and learning.

While I was there, I was also able to experience the laid-back culture. I met fellow juice lovers and heard about why they enjoy these juices. We even took GTL shots (ginger, turmeric, lemon and black pepper)!

I decided to do the Two-Day ReBoot Cleanse. This is 10 total juices for the duration of two days of cleansing. After trying the samples, Jed and I chose which juices would be best for me. He made sure to tell me that juicing isn’t for everybody or every BODY. So to be sure to listen to my body during the cleanse.

Since I’ve never done a cleanse before, I was a bit nervous. If you know me, you know I love food. Anything really. From candy to fruit to sushi. I am not picky. So the thought of not physically chewing anything for two days made me nervous. But, I was looking forward to the fact that I didn’t have to figure out what I would eat because I could just grab a juice and boom done!

On day 1, I was ready to feel good. I woke up excited to start my cleanse. I usually eat breakfast around 8:30 am, so I drank my first juice then. Around 11ish I started feeling hungry. Jed’s advice: If you feel hungry, listen to your body and drink your next juice. So that’s what I did for the remaining day.

That night I had my sisters soccer game. At the concession stand, they had Krispy Kreme donuts. Talk about temptation… I didn’t realize how hard it would be to say no. But I didn’t eat the donut (proud moment) and drank my next juice instead. Have you ever turned down a Krispy Kreme donut? That’s tough.

“Instead of worrying about the sugar and calories, start worrying about the chemicals and the lack of life in your food.” -Jed, owner

After going to bed with a full belly the night before, I knew the second day would be a lot easier. If I am being honest, knowing I was going to eat “normal” food soon helped me get through the second day.

Also, feeding my body nutrients it needed and knowing I wasn’t adding toxins to it, helped me be successful during the cleanse. I really give props to people who do even longer cleanses.

During the two days I didn’t feel hungry . The juices really did fill me up and having 5 juices a day was enough for me. During the cleanse, I found it to be more of a mental game. Knowing that my body was getting what it needed, and me craving little snacks here and there weren’t really necessary. I’m used to eating little snacks in between my meals, so I had to re-train my mind telling myself  I would be fine.

I typically eat what I want and try to make healthy choices, but usually I have a choice. So not having a choice to eat whatever I wanted was hard but with my co-workers (and Odin^) encouraging me and telling myself it was almost done, I did it! Haha, baby steps.

If you’re interested in doing a cleanse here are some steps from Grounding Roots on how to start the process:

Step 1: Pick a date to start your cleanse. Picking a date and preparing is key to a successful cleanse.  Don’t rush it.

Step 2: Call or email Grounding Roots a start date.

Step 3: Prep for your cleanse.

Step 4: Go into the shop (if you have time) and taste all the juices and create your own custom cleanse.

PREP: It’s recommended to modify your diet before doing a cleanse to avoid any system shocks. Ideally, prep three days before you start on the juices. If your diet includes red meat, dairy, caffeine, processed or fast food, you should spend at least three to five days weaning yourself. If you’ve done a cleanse before or you have a pretty clean diet, two to three days of preparation is usually enough.

Overall I am glad I did this cleanse and would definitely recommend it for anyone wanting nutrients beneficial for you. Each juice has specific benefits depending on what your body needs. If you’re looking for a boost to your health, then I think a cleanse can help!

Grounding Roots also currently has a Black Friday deal: https://groundingroots.com/collections/gift-certificates. Let me know if you have any questions if you decide to do a cleanse, and how your experience is  🙂

Psalm 107: 8-9:

8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

  1. I love veggie juice, but I’ve never done a juice cleanse. Though 2 days seems totally doable and like you would feel really good afterwards.

  2. This sounds really hard to do in the holiday season especially being surrounded by food. I have never done a juice cleanse. Do you feel better for having done the cleanse?

  3. I agree with you – I want 2018 to go out with a bam and have also made adjustments to my diet and exercise in anticipation of that. I love the idea of trying a juice cleanse, and these look so yummy! Thanks for the ideas!

  4. I’ve never done a juice cleanse but I have always been interested in them. It was great being able to read about your experience with it. Makes me wanna finally give it a shot!

  5. I love juicing! My husband and I started juicing every morning a couple weeks ago. We feel so much better, lighter and more energy. But we also decided not to eat meat, dairy, and gluten for a while.
Juicing definitely helps in detoxifying your body.

  6. I was always interested in juicing, but honestly I’m nervous that it won’t be for and that I’d end up starving 😂 but this post gave a little clarity, and I think that I am going to look into it 🙂

  7. I’ve always considered doing a juice cleanse, but I was worried about being hungry. Maybe I’ll actually give it a try. Thanks!

  8. I believe I have tried that juice before at Whole Foods and remember it being very tasty! I like what you say about how we crave food even if we are getting all the nutrients we need. I’ve also noticed that very dense, “chewy” foods (like cauliflower and greens) tend to fill me up for longer even though they’re low in calories, so I imagine I would probably still be hungry after drinking the juices. But I think a cleanse can be a good lesson that as long as you’re getting the nutrients you need, you don’t necessarily have to respond to every craving like it’s an emergency lol.

  9. I have never done a cleanse before, mostly because it seems so intimidating. But would love to try it out now after reading your post! It seems like 2 days is the perfect amount of time for a cleanse as its not soo long that you end up slipping, and makes it seem more bearable 🙂

  10. I’m curious as to whether you lost weight, got sick at all, or any other weird things happened to your body. I am a little scared to do this as it could be shocking for sure. But it does look incredibly healthy.

    1. Hello! I did lose a few pounds but I didn’t do the cleanse to lose weight and do not advise it for this reason. I recommend doing the prep I noted above to prevent your body to go into shock. Also talk to your doctor before doing it! xx

  11. I’ve never tried a juice cleanse but it always sounds like a good idea to kickstart a healthy diet. I think it would be great to do after the Christmas Holidays.

  12. I think a juice cleanse is a great idea. It’s a great way to cleanse your system and get started on the right track

  13. I have always wanted to do a juice cleanse as well as it keeps the body nice and healthy, its lovely to be able to see the people behind the brand and read about your shares too

  14. I’ve never done a juice cleanse before. This sounds like a great way to do it with baby steps. I imagine it’s super helpful to meet with the company and try the juices beforehand so you know what you’re getting into and what to expect.

  15. I’ve always been interested in juice cleanses but they seemed a bit much for me. However, two days definitely feels “doable” and I’d love to give it a go. Those juices look delish so hopefully there’s a similar brand/program here in the UK!

Side note – your dog is just beautiful! xx

  16. I love this idea. It’s so cool that Jedidah and his family are pursuing this mission to help people become healthier. Kudos for you for trying it out and for denying yourself the Krispy Kreme. I’ve done a juice cleanse before and it didn’t go as planned. I was overly ambitious, but I would definitely do it again. Thanks for sharing.

  17. I love doing a juice cleanse. My biggest issue is that I don’t wean myself off caffeine before hand so I get awful headaches. But by day 3 my headaches are usually gone. I love that feeling you get after a good cleanse!

  18. Wow, that was such a hard task.. But i think i could the same. I love fruit juices especially apple juice. And i could bear not to eat solids for a week. Im so proud. 😁

  19. I have heard about people doing juice cleanses and have always been interested but never tried one. Thanks for sharing all this great info 🙂

  20. I have never done a cleanse, but I am trying to eat more healthily (before Christmas I know, mad!) so maybe I should start here. Well done for resisting the donut!

  21. You are so much braver than me! I love that you reported on it though, because it doesn’t seem as scary as the thought of it does!

  22. This looks so fantastic! I definitely give huge props to those who can get through a cleanse. Huge props!

  23. These look like yummy juice combinations! Juice can be so healthy and a great way to get your metabolism going.

  24. Great tips! I did a three day cleanse once before and I found it a shock to the system so I did feel pretty rubbish to start with. Makes so much more sense to prep a few days before I think it was the lack of caffeine that hit me hard.
