Part of my overall goals this year are to find new ways to incorporate working out aside of my usual gym and running routine. I’ve started attending Barre Class with Cassidy at The Yoga Loft and enjoy it so much I thought I would share my experience with you!

Not only is Barre Instructor Cassidy in amazing physical shape, but her spirit is so uplifting and positive! We instantly clicked and I knew this was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Cass’s energy fills up the room and it makes working out so much more enjoyable.

So what exactly is BARRE?
Barre is a fusion of ballet, yoga, and Pilates. Typically classes are about an hour long. Each class begins and ends with a deep, full body stretch. The ballet barre is used as a prop for balance.

Barre class focuses on isometric movements to target the legs, glutes, arms, and abs. It is the combination of muscle contractions and stretching that creates the body type often associated with dancers.

What are some Barre class benefits?
There are so many great benefits of taking Barre. A few results that I noticed on myself are increased flexibility, stamina and strength, and improved posture. If you know me, you know my balance is not the best and I am so clumsy! BUT I am noticing my balance is definitely improving from doing Barre.

What’s also neat about Barre is that the benefits are both physical and mental. When I leave class, I feel empowered and encouraged! My thoughts are more clear and I feel so refreshed and ready to take on the rest of my day.

I hope this gives you an idea of what Barre is all about. This has positively changed my health so I hope this inspires you to try something new when working out! Barre / Body Conditioning with Cass at The Yoga Loft is offered on Monday and Wednesday from 5-6 PM and it is $12 per class.     Glad to see you are enjoying your Yoga class, I can tell you first hand it has helped Candi with her injury from playing tennis and she really has benefited from Yoga physically and mentally.

  2. I used to be a contributing writer for the Detroit Mom’s Blog and the whole team loved barre classes. I was always curious to try it, but never had the guts to walk in the place. There are some “mommy” activities this Stay At Home Dad will do, but I’m not there….yet

  3. This looks like an amazing class! I used to love Ballet when I was young, especially the Barre Workouts! I think this would take me back!I will have to look this class up in my local area.

  5. Love your article about taking barre <3 I loved taking barre so much that I decided to get certified to teach it. If you love it as much as I do, you should look into becoming a certified barre instructor. I took the ABT online barre certification, and it taught me everything I needed to know.
